WHERE TO START

  1. Schedule virtual tax appointment online – when scheduling ensure the correct phone number to reach you at is provided in your personal info.
  2. Available virtual tax service appointments occur only on Tuesdays (4:00-6:00pm) or Thursdays (7:00-8:30pm).
  3. This type of service is for the person who has access to a computer/tablet/smartphone to upload documents and has a personal email.  

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR YOUR VIRTUAL APPOINTMENT

  1. Prior to your appointment, complete this Intake Form.  Please download, complete and save to be uploaded when asked by the tax site representative.
  2. Tax Appointment Day/Time.  Please be available at least five minutes prior to appointment time for a phone call from a Tempe VITA Tax Site representative.  To avoid any potential scams, the phone call will come from 602-643-6755.  Please do not block this number.  If possible, put this number in your contacts as Tempe VITA Virtual Tax Rep.
  3. If you need to change or cancel your virtual appointment please do so through the appointment system – unless it is last minute please email  vitatempe@gmail.com, call 480.858.2323, or text only 602.643.6755.
  4. The VITA Tax Representative will ask some basic and identifying questions for qualification/eligibility as well as instruct you on how to proceed with uploading documents.
  5. Our Virtual tax service utilizes the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Tax Slayer software program.  At your initial appointment, the VITA Tax Rep will send you a link to login/sign-up into this secure program.  You will create your own personalized username and password.  It is through the Tax Slayer program you will upload any documents, review and sign your tax return as well as communications/message with you tax preparer.  An occasional phone call may take place as well – be sure it is from the phone number provided above.  Any concerns on the security of the person calling you, please call or text the number provided above.       
  6. After your initial appointment the assigned tax preparer will begin working on your tax returns based on how quickly all of your tax information is uploaded and received.  Once all the information is received, the average turnaround time for completion of your tax returns would be one week. 
  7. Once the tax return is prepared, you will be notified.  Your tax returns will be available through the TaxSlayer portal for you to review and sign electronically.
  8. The tax preparer will then submit the returns electronically to both the IRS and appropriate state.
  9. If the return is rejected, we will call you from the phone number provided above. 
  10. To check the status of your refund, you can visit the IRS website for your federal return at Where’s My Refund and if filing an Arizona state tax return you can visit  Where’s My Refund – Arizona weblink.  Note:  It may take up to 72 hours after filing for status of your tax return to be displayed.
