2021 Tempe VITA Tax Site Info

Tempe Community Council’s Tempe Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is committed to the health and safety of our team, board members, clients and partners. We are taking the concerns around the Coronavirus (COVID-19) very seriously and are closely monitoring updates from the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization. We will continue to seek guidance from these agencies, the City of Tempe, state and local public health officials.

The following outlines our plans for the upcoming Tax Season:

Services Provided (as of February 1, 2021)

100% Virtual VITA – No personal contact with volunteers or other clients, completed using Zoom and DocuSign applications.  Clients complete intake forms and submit tax documents electronically, volunteers prepare the return and reviews with the client via Zoom.  The volunteer electronically files the return, the client is responsible for printing and maintaining their return copy.  To begin the Virtual VITA online tax service click here by sending an email of your interest to schedule tax preparation via Zoom.

Do-It-Yourself – Review online programs available to complete your own return:  My Free Taxes or IRS Free File Partners.

Drop-Off Taxes – Drop-Off services are not offered at this time, but will be re-evaluated February 1 based on the local cases of COVID-19 and potential health risks to volunteers and taxpayers.  When they begin, Drop-Off services will be by appointment only – no walk-in services.  Drop-Off service requires the client to visit the tax site with their tax documents, complete the intake forms which are reviewed by a tax volunteer.  The tax return is completed without the client being present, but they return to review and sign their return (also by appointment).  Check back periodically for update.
